APPLYING COATINGS, A TRULY STRATEGIC PROCESS
Snaidero has been carrying out the entire lacquering process for its kitchens at its factory for over fifty years, providing a wide range of colours and finishes. In doing so it has always been able to combine the latest technologies with the best craft and hand-finishing processes. This still remains the only way of guaranteeing the care and quality that the Company demands of the many surfaces it produces in many different shapes.
The production of shaped and lacquered elements began in 1991, with the introduction of the curved lacquered doors for the historic and very successful “Ola” model designed by Pininfarina. Subsequently in 2000, for the restyling of the “Ola”, “Viva” and “Idea” models – also overseen by Pininfarina – innovative finishes in matt and glossy-effect metallic lacquer were introduced, developed from a process used in the automobile industry.
More recently, Snaidero reconfirmed its natural vocation for continuous innovation. It introduced a new technology, also this time closely associated with the automobile industry: mica lacquering. This is a type of finish that once again revolutionised the standards for coatings for domestic surfaces. Mica was introduced for the first time as a reflective agent. This is a mineral with a characteristic shine and brightness that easily breaks into small flakes, providing an effect similar to metallic-finish coatings but much cleaner and brighter. It creates unique and discreetly beautiful surfaces with a refined and precious feel.
WATER-BASED COATINGS, RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND PEOPLE'S HEALTH
It should also be remembered that alongside the Company's efforts to achieve excellence in the quality and aesthetics of its products, Snaidero has also always been concerned with the complete safety of its manufacturing processes.
The careful process of monitoring and reducing its environmental impact started many years ago at Snaidero. It has led to the elimination of pigments containing heavy metals in the lacquer finish coatings used in production, pigments that could potentially have been toxic to our workers. The Company has also drastically reduced the amount of aromatic diluents used in the manufacturing process. All the products used during the coating processes for all the elements that comprise a Snaidero product are completely non-toxic and do not contain heavy metals, formaldehyde or their composites.
The Company's constant commitment to reducing atmospheric emissions of volatile organic substances and to improving the healthiness of its working environments led to the introduction several years ago of water-based matt lacquer coatings. These new coatings are completely non-toxic and maintain the functional characteristics, performance and looks that are now essential for any contemporary kitchen environment. At the same time, we are engaged in research to identify solutions that will help us convert other coating processes that currently still make use of solvent-based coatings to water-based products.
