Harry Brearly was the Englishman from Sheffield who discovered stainless steel in 1913, when he realised that one of his steel specimens containing 13-14% of chromium and a relatively high carbon content, did not rust when exposed to the atmosphere. Stainless steel is the name given to high-chromium steels, due to their non-rusting properties even when exposed to atmospheric agents: chromium, which oxidises in contact with oxygen, turns into chromium oxide that adheres to the piece and prevents further oxidation. In addition to chromium, other elements such as nickel, molybdenum and titanium, allow stainless steel to be easily folded, welded, moulded and machined, enabling a wide range of applications.


The use of stainless steel in the kitchen is of utmost importance. The smooth non-porous surface of steel helps to prevent the adhesion and survival of bacteria and other micro-organisms, maintaining a high level of hygiene. Stainless steel can be easily cleaned with a soft cloth or a sponge soaked in soapy water. You must never use abrasive products and we recommend, for satin-finish surfaces, that you always clean in the direction of the finish and not across it. Even if sufficiently pure, water may contain salts, iron, limestone and chemical substances (acids or bases) that may encourage corrosion or oxidation stains on stainless steel surfaces. To remove them, only use commercial products that are specific for stainless steel and follow the instructions on the product label. With tough stains (limescale or hot fat substances) you should use a soft cloth with boiling hot white vinegar or methylated spirits.

In addition to it being a valuable material with countless uses and high performance, the most undeniable advantage of Solid Surface is that it needs very little attention because its technical characteristics. This means that it stays solid, robust and attractive even when subjected to all kinds of stress, and it will still look great even if you only have time to clean it now and again. It can withstand “ill treatment” by people or kitchenware and is unaffected by heat or humidity in kitchens or bathrooms and is absolutely “child-resistant”. All in all, it is a shining example of how maximum comfort and convenience are possible even in a very “lived-in” home. The surfaces in Solid Surface can be restored and made to look as good as new; all you have to do is clean them with a normal abrasive delicate detergent and an abrasive sponge. With this system, you can easily repair the damage caused to Solid Surface by improper use, without actually having to replace it.

It has been proven that Solid Surface is absolutely harmless for human health and for the natural environment. Above all, Solid Surface has a low VOC content, i.e. of volatile organic compounds such as benzene, toluene and methane, which are harmful to health. Furthermore, Solid Surface is an inert chemical material, i.e. it does not send emissions into the air and for this reason it is highly beneficial. All colour shades of Solid Surface are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, as they are free from toxic ingredients, heavy metals and carcinogenic elements. The Solid Surface production process creates very little waste and what there is can be reused in production. Furthermore, packaging is reused and recycled whenever possible.
