The Innovation of matter

For its kitchens, Snaidero has designed a brand-new finish that combines the warmth of wood, the durability of aluminium and the elegant, dynamic look of vertical grooves.

As is often the case in the world of design, innovation stems from a design intuition that aims to solve a technical problem.

If the aesthetic virtue of ribbed wood lies in the verticality of its grooves, which lend an unmistakable material depth to flat surfaces, it seems a shame to have to forgo it precisely where it would be most appreciated - on tall unit doors. This is the starting point for the experiment undertaken by Snaidero’s Research & Development department: using honeycomb aluminium as the structural substrate, and cladding it with a wood veneer finish in order to preserve the straightness of the element without the need for rear tensioners on the doors. The result is a ribbed finish that is aesthetically consistent with what the market offers, yet conceals within it a technological solution and an understated preciousness.

« It is an exceptionally refined finish which, compared to standard ribbed wood, not only achieves greater cleanliness through its technical precision, but also a greater softness, the result of additional brushing and sanding that eliminate the sharp edge effect between one groove and the next. The thin stained veil applied to the surface to even out the tone of the doors gives the aluminium a warmer appearance, while the final lacquer coat enhances the wood grain and protects the aluminium from oxidation. »  Emanuele Orlando, Snaidero’s R&D manager, explains how the aluminium-wood slatted design is a perfect example of innovation applied to the material.

Available in the European Walnut and American Walnut finishes, is an exclusive Snaidero innovation that brings a subtle three-dimensionality to the kitchen environment, where aesthetics and technical ingenuity find exactly the right balance.
